She was just a little girl, with a tiny horn in the center of her forehead, funny-looking feet, beautiful silver hair, and several curious powers: the ability to purify air and water, make plants grow, and heal scars and broken bones. She is unusually intelligent and can learn extremely quickly. Acorna is also born more mature than human infants and grows to adulthood within four years. Her fingers only have two joints, one at the knuckle and the other in the middle of her fingers. Her feet are equine hooves similar to those of traditional unicorn lore. The same silvery curls are also on her calves. Protagonist Acorna Besides the single horn, situated halfway between her brow and her forehead, Acorna can, with the right attires, pass as a tall and graceful young lady with a silvery mane from her head down to her back, similar to that of a horse. During that time Acorn grows from a toddler to a young lady and many of her special abilities are discovered. Acorn's escape pod is initially found in an asteroid field by 3 independent miners who are out on a long term mission mining various asteroids until their ship is full. The series takes place on various planets and locations. There are other series by McCaffrey also set in this Universe but none of them intersect directly with Acorna.
